About me and my Life in Norway
My first visit to beautiful Norway was in 1971
I would like to tell you about me and my life in Beautiful Norway When someone mentions how beautiful Norway is, what thoughts spring to mind? Yes I know, snow, mountains, fjords, lakes, rivers, wooden houses, even Eskimos. My first visit to beautiful Norway was in 1971. I met a Norwegian girl in London and I remember well the thoughts that sprang to mind when she told me how fascinating Norway was. What do you think sprang to mind? Yes you guessed it, snow, mountains, fjords, lakes, rivers etc, etc.We became very close friends and when she returned home to Norway we often wrote letters to each other. She wrote beautiful things about Norway and I wrote to her about me and my life in England. Eventually she invited me to Norway and I accepted. I decided to explore the west coast, including Stavanger and Bergen. I soon found out that beautiful Norway had much, much more to offer than I ever imagined. Not surprisingly I fell in love with this fascinating country and after several more holidays I decided to move from England and live here. Now I am happily married with children and grandchildren in both countries.I have a family in England including three Daughters and six grand children from a previous marriage. They love Norway and visit us quite often. My Dad, who is ninety years old this year, likes to visit us on a regular basis and he really loves it. My Daughter Mandy and my son in law, always accompany him though. There is one place quite near us he really loves to visit and that is the shop selling Norwegian Sweaters, he usually buys one every year, he says they are so warm and comfy for the English winters. They live in North Wales so they drive up to Newcastle and take a direct flight to Stavanger with Wideroe air.Very convenient for him because of the direct flight. The Dutch Airline KLM, also gives excellent service at reasonable prices to Norway The area where I live is called Jaeren. It’s mainly farmland but there are three small towns very near each other, which are starting to be quite industrial.I live in a small town called Naerbo and to the south we have two very small towns called Varhaug and Vigrestad. To the north there are two towns, the nearest is called Bryne and the next one is called Sandnes. This town is much bigger than Naerbo, Varhaug and Vigrestad but smaller than Stavanger.Stavanger airport is in Sola and the coast-line from here is really beautiful. Sola beach is a very popular place for wind surfers and there is a competition held every summer here. On very hot days the beach is crowded with sun worshipers and quite a lot of the beautiful Norwegian girls sunbathe topless ;-) These beaches stretch many for miles, they are usually divided by small harbours and rocky shore lines. The closest beach to my house is called Naerland. We can drive there in 4 to 5 minutes. There is also a very good salmon river running through this area, you can purchase a daily license at the post office if you want to try your luck. Please don’t be afraid to let me know if you need more information. If you decide to visit Norway and you are in the area you are more than welcome to visit me ;-) there’s one thing about me that my wife always likes to tell people, and that is I am always looking for excuses to fish. I have travelled to many parts of Norway and explored the lakes and rivers and landed many a nice salmon :=)We are very lucky to live in this part of beautiful Norway because of the many outdoor activities. There are lakes full of trout, salmon rivers, beaches, beautiful walks and the nearest ski slopes are only one and half hour drive away. The skiing area is called Sirdal and you can read about it on one of my other pages.Regarding skiing, I tried it once many years ago, and made a complete fool of my self so now I leave it the rest of the family. That’s another thing about me wife likes to tell people. My expertise on skis ;-) The family are all proficient skiers, which is not surprising really; they begin at a very early age. I’ve seen young kids of 3 or 4 years old whizzing down the slopes at break-neck speed. It really is an incredible sight. My wife and I are planning to travel much more when she retires next year.Even though I have lived here for 30 years, there are so many places in beautiful Norway I haven’t seen yet. Norwegians are a pleasant and kindly people and very helpful to visitors to their country,English is the second language learned in the schools, and in the towns and cities it is understood and spoken very well. Well I hope you enjoyed this page about me and my life here in Norway If you have any questions about this site or Norway please subscribe below. Thank you
