Alcohol and drink in Norway
Drinking and driving is not allowed in Norway. There is one big golden rule if you are living or staying in Norway. If you are planning on driving a vehicle of any sort. DON’T TOUCH ANY AMOUNT OF ALCOHOL.
In Norway, if you are stopped by the police and your blood alcohol content is shown to be .02 per cent or over, you are in big trouble. This is equal to a small glass of wine or beer. In most Countries the legal limit is .08. So be warned, if you are stopped and have a BAC of .02 per cent or over, you go to jail for a minimum of 3 weeks. Norway has very few problems with drunk driving compared to other countries. This is greatly attributed to the strict legal limit and the serious consequences. People are very considerate of this law. I go to quite a lot a of occasions where alcoholic drinks are served, and not once have I observed a person who has consumed more than a 1 glass of wine or beer then driven home. It’s amazing how people respect this law. The police are so strict, that if you are stopped and they smell beer or wine on youre breath, even if you have only had 1 glass , you have to leave your car and accompany them to the police station!!!!! Norwegians have solved this problem taking turns being the driver and this seems to work fine. I mean what’s the point in taking a chance of spending 3 weeks in jail just for a couple of extra drinks.
