Lillehammer host of the of the 1994 Olympic games
One evening my wife and I and some friends were discussing Lillehammer and how time flys. I have been in Norway for 34 years and it only seems like yesterday when I first set eyes on this beautiful Country.
When the discussion came around to the 2010 winter olympics in Canada, someone asked when was the last time Norway hosted the winter olympics. We all knew where, but there were all sorts of answers for what year it was. My wife was the nearest. She thought it was in 1998. I guessed 2002 and the others had no idea. It was actually in 1994 This olympic Town is very small with a population of 25,000. Even so they won the right to host the games over bids from Sweden, Bulgaria, Sofia, Alaska, Anchorage, Åre, Østersund and America. The town is well known by tourists for its old farmhouses, a very modern shopping centre and alpine skiing resorts. There are quite number of attractions here. The young tourists tend to head for Olympic Park where you can travel at breakneck speed down the bobsleigh track. Take a trip with the world's oldest paddle steamer Skibladner and enjoy Norway's largest lake, the very beautiful lake Mjøsa. Maihaugen Open Air Museum, the Ski Jumping Arena and the Olympic Museum are some other places to visit.
