Nobel Peace Prize

Nobel Peace Prize was founded by Alfred Nobel, who was a Swedish industrialist and inventor and when he died in 1896, included in his will was a statement saying that a Peace Prize should be awarded to a person who did the best work for peace between nations.

The will also stated that the prize should be awarded by a five man committee, elected by the Norwegian Parliament.

The Peace Prize is awarded every year on the 10th of December, the anniversary of Nobel’s death. The presentation is held in the Kings presence in the city of Oslo, Norway’s capital.

The following day the Peace Prize Concert is held, and artists from all over the world are invited to perform in front of the Royal family. Top celebrities like to be seen here too.

The event is broadcast on television throughout the world and is seen in over 450 million homes in more than 150 countries.

Here are some quotations by Nobel

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore
