Norway Flag

Norway flag is red with an indigo blue, it has a Scandinavian cross outlined in white that extends out to the edges of the flag; the vertical part of the cross is moved to the hoist side in the Dannebrog style, the same as the flag of Denmark.

The dimensions of the flag are 22:16 (width to height), its colour elements having widths of 6:1:2:1:12 and heights of 6:1:2:1:6. The proportions of the state flag are 27:16, or 6:1:2:1:6:11 horizontally and 6:1:2:1:6 vertically.

When the flag is being raised on ceremonial or festive occasions, it will be accompanied by the national anthem or a fanfare. For the ordinary citizen who have a Norway flag on their property, it is usually hoisted on special occasions like the National Day (17th May) and on ceremonial occasions, there are no special rules concerning this. The Norwegian armed forces have a bugle call for hoisting and lowering of Norway flag know as "flaggappell" (Attention to the flag)

It is an unwritten law that during the hoisting or lowering of the flag, citizens should always act in a manner by facing towards the flag and standing straight, and quiet. Males should be not wear hats (unless for special reasons such as medical or climatic reasons).

All government personnel wearing uniform (e.g: Municipal traffic wardens, policemen, customs official, prison wardens, Maritime pilots, Armed Forces personnel) should always follow the Armed Forces regulation during the hoisting or lowering of the flag.

The regulations say that when observing the flag being hoisted or lowered, or hearing the bugle being played, all activity should be stopped if possible, and personnel should perform the foot drill maneuver of "Halt and face the front”
