Norway doesn't have a very friendly attitude to narcotics and druggies, explaining why it's the OD capital of Europe.
"Narcotics or any kind of drugs will be taken very seriously"
Norway’s police chiefs say “We are very tough on the narcotics situation, it is strictly illegal to be in possession of and to use classified drugs” The problem is, the fines and the prison time is a joke. To be sent to prison you have to be in possession of a large quantity of drugs and even then you have a good chance of just paying a big fine and the dealers know it. Norwegian police made a quite a number of marijuana growing operations arrests this year, according to one Oslo newspaper marijuana plants found on an Island, near Fredrikstad, over the weekend were just the latest indications that the cultivation of cannabis is taking off in this beautiful country. Other garden operations have been found in the counties of Telemark, Buskerud and Hedmark. Quite a lot of these operations have been growers from Vietnam, according to police sources. While small-time drug possession, as I explained above, including marijuana possession, is charged under a relatively lenient section of the Norwegian criminal code, the cultivation of cannabis or trafficking offenses, including those involving cannabis, are serious crimes punishable by up to 21 years in prison. Amy Winehouse discovered this recently on a visit to Norway. The hotel called the Police, who arrested her and her boyfriend. They paid their fines, and that was time served. “Norway doesn't have a very friendly attitude to druggies” say the authorities. Well not unless you’re famous and have been busted for drugs numerous times, nudge nudge ;-) By the way did you know Norway is the OD capital of Europe? I wonder why!!!!
